Other's know the minute the fence is out of service. According to owners, on some dogs you could throw away the collar after a year, and the would still respect the boundary. Although the dog was tentative, he crossed right over where the freshly dead wire was buried, and that's when we knew something was wrong. After plowing and as I was doing my work in the phone ped, his beagle came right up to me. We had one last fall where the owner forgot where the I.F. Big utilties like Gas & Electric aren't going to care much about your dogwire, and won't even know they cut it. We cut one once when a neighbor, to our customer, went out of their way to dig the line around our phone ped. Make sure you don't bury it in the utility right of way or ditches. I have a $3500 locator that we use to locate phone lines, and every year we end up doing customers a favor by finding where their wire is damaged-a lot of times in driveways. Once the wire is cut, but not necessarily exposed, it's not the easiest for a home owner to figure out where to fix it at. So, any groundhog, squirrel, etc-could do the same. A shovel will cut thru it like butter-I know.

It's only buried 1-3' deep and is very fine. The other issue is how easily the wire can be damaged. Seemed to be working for him, but boy was it ugly. So he pulled it out of the ground and strung it on the posts, so there was less distance between the collar and the wire. When we asked him why it was like that, he said that it was originally buried, but his big dog would run right thru (over) it. We also buried a phone line for a person that had his wire strung up on posts in his front yard. I've definitely heard of dogs that will run right through it, after a squirrel or rabbit. I bury telephone lines for the phone company, and I'm always asking customers if they have I.F., so I've gotten a lot of different stories. We considered it, but I've talked to a lot of people who have it and it made me nervous. I cannot testify as to any conflicts with the invisible fence and an e-collar, as I don't have either. We use the tone feature on the e-collar instead of a whistle when hunting wild birds that are flushing way ahead of the dogs. If our dog is on point and we hit the tone he does not break point any more then he would if we called or whistled to him. The TT e-collar that we have has a tone feature that is not a locator beep. It is not like any locator tone I have heard on an e-collar. It is not a loud tone, you have to be close to the collar to hear it. I will be receiving an 8wk old GSP pup in about 4 weeks. With that being said, I am undecided which way to set up the containment for my yard. The beeper was taped shut to keep the noise volume down as well.

I have a concern that if the audible warning that the e fence collar gives would initiate a recall command response, then wouldn't the locate feature of an e collar do the same in the field when you are only trying to locate the dog not recall him back ? I have seen a recall response from a locate beep happen with a 7mo gsp in the field that has not been e fence collar trained.
